The Head of Finance is Gigascale’s senior-most finance leader and a core member of the leadership team. This is a building role: you will design, own, and operate the financial backbone of a long-term venture firm managing multiple funds and related vehicles.
You will run the firm’s financial engine end to end—fund finance, accounting, valuation, tax, treasury, and management company operations—while building systems and processes that scale cleanly, reduce risk, and support durable growth.
As a strategic partner to the investment team and our limited partners, you will support capital formation, fund operations, and firm-level decisions, and serve as a trusted interface for LP reporting, transparency, and governance.
This role is hands-on and judgment-driven. We’re looking for a doer who owns outcomes, navigates complexity with confidence, and brings an operator’s bias toward execution in service of a long-term mission.
Key Responsibilities
Fund finance & reporting: End-to-end ownership of fund and GP financial operations, including accounting, audits, valuations, capital calls, distributions, and LP reporting, in close partnership with external administrators and advisors.
Tax, structuring & compliance: Lead tax planning and compliance across funds and the management company; partner with legal on fund structures, new vehicles, and regulatory obligations.
Capital planning & treasury: Manage capital call pacing, liquidity, banking relationships, and credit facilities across a growing platform.
Investment & portfolio support: Act as a thought partner to the investment team on transactions, exits, and complex scenarios; support diligence and portfolio financial insight where it matters.
Management company: Own budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for the firm; support resourcing and operational scale.
Operations: Working with outsourced providers, assist and/or take leadership in areas of HR, IT, and Compliance.
Systems, controls & scale: Build and continuously improve financial systems, controls, and workflows that are fit for a long-term, multi-fund venture firm.
Leadership & judgment: Serve as a trusted advisor to the partners—bringing clarity, discipline, and practical insight to high-stakes decisions.
Qualifications
15+ years of progressive experience in accounting & finance, with significant experience in private markets (venture capital, private equity, or alternative assets).
Prior experience as a CFO, Head of Finance, Controller, or senior finance leader at an investment firm strongly preferred.
Deep expertise in fund accounting, valuations (ASC 820), partnership tax, and complex fund structures.
Strong understanding of venture fund operations, LP reporting, capital mechanics, and GP economics.
Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically, with a willingness to be hands-on.
Experience with operations including HR, IT, and Compliance is a plus.
Exceptional judgment, attention to detail, and execution discipline.
Track record of building scalable processes and effectively managing third-party providers.
Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with investment professionals.
Ability to develop strong relationships with wide variety of audiences, including Limited Partners and Portfolio Company CEO’s and CFO’s.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
Personal Attributes
Low-ego, high-integrity doer with a strong ownership mindset. You’re willing to do the work yourself vs hire a big team.
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and wearing multiple hats.
Collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented.
Long-term oriented and aligned with Gigascale’s mission and values.
